How to Hide Your Number Temporarily on iPhone

Last Updated On May 7, 2023 by iPhoneGeeks Staff

Have you ever wanted to make a phone call without revealing your phone number to the person you are calling? Perhaps you’re trying to contact someone who you don’t want to have your personal information, or maybe you just don’t want your number to show up on their caller ID. Whatever your reason, hiding your number on an iPhone is easy to do with just a few simple steps.

When you hide your number, your phone number is not displayed on the recipient’s caller ID. Instead of seeing your phone number, the recipient will typically see "No Caller ID," "Unknown," or "Private Number" or a similar message on their screen.

In this article, I will guide you through the process of hiding your number temporarily or permanently on an iPhone. By following these steps, you can make private calls without revealing your phone number.

Step 1: Open Settings

The first step to hiding your number on an iPhone is to open the Settings app. This is where you will find the option to turn off Caller ID.

Step 2: Click on "Phone"

Once you are in the Settings app, scroll down until you see the "Phone" option. Click on it to open the Phone settings.

Step 3: Click on "Show My Caller ID"

In the Phone settings, click on "Show My Caller ID." This will bring up the options for Caller ID.

Step 4: Turn off Show My Caller ID

To hide your number, simply turn off the Show My Caller ID option. Once you have turned off Caller ID, your phone number will not be displayed on the recipient’s caller ID.

Step 5: Make your Call

Now that you have turned off Caller ID, you can make your call without revealing your phone number. Simply dial the number as you normally would and your number will not be displayed on the recipient’s caller ID.

Step 6: Turn Caller ID back on

Once you have made your private call, you may want to turn Caller ID back on. To do this, simply follow the same steps and turn on the Show My Caller ID option.

Alternative Method: Using *67

If you don’t want to go through the hassle of going through the Settings app, you can also use the *67 feature. This feature works by adding *67 before the phone number you want to call. This will hide your phone number for that call only.

For example, if the number you want to call is 123-456-7890, you would dial *671234567890. Your number will be hidden for that call only.

When Not to Hide Your Number

While hiding your number can be useful in certain situations, it’s important to remember that there are times when it is not appropriate to do so. For example, if you are calling emergency services, it is important that they have your phone number so they can call you back if necessary. Additionally, some businesses may not answer calls from blocked or hidden numbers, so hiding your number could actually prevent you from getting the help or information you need.

Conclusion

Hiding your number temporarily on an iPhone is an easy process that can be done in just a few steps. By following the steps outlined in this article, you can make private calls without revealing your phone number. However, it’s important to remember that there are times when it is not appropriate to hide your number, so use this feature responsibly.
