What Are Apple AirTags?
AirTags are small, puck-shaped tracker that can help you locate misplaced or stolen items with the Find My app. AirTags use ultra-wideband technology and take advantage of Apple’s existing network of devices, which work as crowdsourced beacons to ping each other in order to determine your missing item’s location.
How Do I Set Up Apple AirTags?
Setup is simple. Take the device out of the box and pull out the tab to activate the AirTag. Hold it near your compatible mobile device, which will detect the tracker and prompt you to set it up, similar to AirPods or a HomePod device. You can then name your AirTag after the device it will be in charge of tracking. The AirTag is then registered to your Apple ID—that’s it. Here’s how to fix the problem when your Apple AirTags are not working:
Turn Bluetooth Off And Back On
If you find AirTags not working, turn Bluetooth off and back on (Settings > Bluetooth).
Check for updates
Make sure that your iPhone or iPad is running the latest version of iOS or iPadOS. You can go to Settings > General > Software Update to check for updates.
Restart your iPhone
Restart your iPhone or iPad and then try using the Airtag again. Here is how:
iPhone X, 11 or newer, and iPad without a Home button models: Press and hold the volume up (or down) and the side buttons together until you see the power off slider. Then drag the slider from left to right. Wait a few seconds for your device to turn off. And press and hold the side button until you see the Apple logo.
Other iPhone and iPad models: Press and hold the power button (side or top) until you see the power off slider. Drag the slide and wait a few seconds for your device to turn off completely. Then press and hold the power button until you see the Apple logo.
Change the battery
Change the AirTag battery and try using it again. Your iPhone will let you know when your battery is low. If the battery is low, you may have this connection problem. AirTags use a basic CR2032 battery. Here is how you can change the battery:
Ensure that the silver side is facing you, if not turn over.
Press down on the stainless steel and rotate counterclockwise while pressing down.
Remove the silver top when it is loose.
Remove the battery and replace it with a new battery.
Put back the stainless steel bottom.
Press down and rotate the cover clockwise until it stops.
Ensure that you have a strong Wi-Fi or cellular connection
If your Wi-Fi signal is slow, try restarting your Wi-Fi router/modem. You can do so by unplugging (wait 30 seconds) and plugging back in.
Reset Network Settings
Resetting network settings may resolve airTags not working issue. Please note that resetting this will erase your Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, VPN, and other network settings. Here is how:
On your iPhone or iPad, go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
If asked, enter your passcode.
Your device will restart.
Reset Your AirTags
Step 1: Open the back stainless steel battery cover of AirTag by pressing it down and then rotating it.
Step 2: Remove the battery and then Replace it.
Step 3: Press down on the battery and until you hear a Sound.
Step 4: As soon as the sound goes off, repeat the process four times. ( You have to remove and replace the battery and then press down until you hear the sound. You will hear a total of five sounds in the process to reset your AirTag.
Step 5: Now, put the stainless steel cover back on by aligning the three tabs and then pressing it until you hear a sound.
Step 6: Rotate the cover clockwise for a perfect fit.
