The iPhone 14 Pro Max Touchscreen is great when it work, but when a touch screen stops working, all that ease of use goes out the window and frustration sets in very quickly. The biggest problem is that in the case of the iPhone 14 Pro Max, the touch screen is the only way you can interact with your phone. When that suddenly goes away, it can feel like you’re totally locked out of your device altogether. If your iPhone 14 Pro Max touch screen is not working, read on for a helpful series of troubleshooting steps that may help to fix the problem.

Note: These troubleshooting steps apply to iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max.

Why Is Your iPhone 14 Pro Max Touchscreen Not Working?

The unresponsive or nonworking touch screen on iPhone 14 Pro Max could be caused by several things, sometimes it’s software related, some crud on the screen, damage to the iPhone touch screen or iPhone itself, or perhaps some other issues as well. Regardless of the problem, there are some basic, easy fixes that you can try when your iPhone 14 Pro Max touchscreen stops working. Read on to learn more.

What to do if your iPhone 14 Pro Max touchscreen isn’t working

If your iPhone 14 Pro Max touchscreen is not working, try each of these troubleshooting tips. Hopefully, one of these will get you up and running. If not, it’s likely you have a hardware problem that may only be fixable by contacting Apple customer service to repair or replace your phone.

1. Force your iPhone to restart

It may sound pretty basic, but when your iPhone 14 Pro Max touch screen stops working, simply restarting your device is usually all it takes to fix the problem. Restarting an iPhone can wipe out temporary glitches in memory, which can restore, for example, an unresponsive screen.

Of course, if your iPhone 14 Pro Max touchscreen is not working, you can’t shut down the device in the usual way using the Settings menu; you’ll need to force the phone to restart by pressing some combination of power and volume buttons.

  1. Press and quickly release the volume up button.
  2. Press and quickly release the volume down button.
  3. Press and hold the side button.
  4. When the Apple Logo appears, release the button.

2. Clean and dry the screen

In some cases, the iPhone 14 Pro Max touch screen will stop responding properly due to built up dirt and grime or problems with the case or screen protector. Since this is pretty easy to either deal with or rule out, it’s a good idea to give your iPhone a thorough cleaning if a force restart didn’t do the trick.

Clean your hands to avoid passing dirt onto the screen. Wipe the touch screen with a lint-free cloth. The cloth may be dry or wet, but never use a sopping wet one.

It’s also worth noting that you can’t use the touchscreen if your fingers are covered with most kinds of gloves or mittens. If you’re wearing something, take it off.

3. Remove your case and screen protector

If a screen protector gets dirty underneath it, is slightly wet, or gets too warm, it will stop registering your touch. Remove anything on or around the screen, including the phone case and any screen protector that’s keeping the screen from getting scratched. If it works after removing those accessories, get a different case and/or look for a thinner screen protector.

4. Disconnect any accessories from the Lightning port

On rare occasions, an accessory plugged into the phone’s Lightning port could interfere with the touchscreen. If anything is plugged into the port including a power bank or charger unplug it. If that solves your problem, the accessory or cable might be incompatible with the iPhone.

5. Is the iPhone Touch Screen Cracked? Is the iPhone Touch Screen Damaged? Was the iPhone damaged or dropped?

This is probably obvious from the get-go, but if the iPhone 14 Pro Max touch screen is cracked it can become unresponsive, partially unresponsive, or just not work at all. Likewise if the iPhone is damaged, it may not work at all, or the touch screen may not work reliably.

If an iPhone 14 Pro Max has been dropped, it’s also possible that internal components came loose, which may cause the touch screen to not be working.

If the iPhone has obvious visible damage and the iPhone 14 Pro Max touch screen is not working, the damage is likely to be the cause. In such a situation, take the iPhone to an authorized Apple repair center or an Apple store and have them give it a look.

6. Dry your iPhone out if it got wet

Your iPhone 14 Pro Max Touch screen can also stop working, become unresponsive, or work erratically if a phone gets wet. In that case, drying the phone out thoroughly sometimes fixes the problem.

Believe it or not, putting your phone in rice is one of the best ways to dry it out if it has been accidentally dropped in water. If this doesn’t help, take your iPhone to an authorized Apple repair center or an Apple store for additional help.

7. Does Your iPhone 14 Pro Max Touch Screen Stop Working When You Use A Specific App?

Sometimes an iPhone 14 Pro Max touch screen is unresponsive in just one particular app. If this is the case, the problem is likely that app and not the iPhone touch screen at all. Try closing and reopening the app by swiping up from the bottom of the screen to launch the app switcher. Then, swipe up on the app to close it.

It might also help to check if this app has an update available. If the software isn’t up to date, the app’s software could be encountering bugs causing your iPhone 14 Pro Max to freeze. Open the App Store and tap on your profile icon in the upper right corner. Scroll down and install any available app updates.

If there is still a problem with the iPhone 14 Pro Max touch screen not working in a specific app after you have updated that app, you can also delete the app, and then reinstall the problematic app. To do this, press and hold on the app icon and tap Remove App. Next, tap Delete App. Finally, tap Delete to confirm. Now, re download the app from the App Stor and check if it works as expected. If it still fails, the app could have a bug that needs to be addressed.

8. AVOID EXTREME TEMPERATURES

The iPhone 14 Pro Max touchscreen won’t work when it’s really hot or freezing cold. In fact, your phone may display a warning if its temperature rises beyond a certain level. You won’t be able to use it until it cools down, so find a place for it to do so. The best way to allow your iPhone to cool down is to turn it off. In case you can’t do that, lock the device and don’t use it for a while. Once the screen becomes responsive again, close power-hungry apps like Maps and Camera (if they were open). Next, turn off your iPhone and after waiting for at least a minute, turn it back on.

In some instances, the iPhone 14 Pro Max screen will become temporarily unresponsive to touch after a rapid change to a cold environment. After several seconds the screen will become fully responsive again. This can be resolved by heating up your iPhone a bit. We don’t mean putting on a fire or in the over! Rather, you can try wrapping it up in a blanket, towel, or even sitting on it for 5-10 minutes. For this to work and generate some moderate heat, the phone must be on.

9. Reset all settings to defaults

Is your iPhone screen partially working? If yes, before moving to factory reset (which is a big step), try resetting all iPhone settings and see if it fixes the issue or not. If you can use your screen in some way, navigate to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset. > Reset all settings

10. iPhone 14 Pro Max touch screen still not working? Perform a Factory reset

If your iPhone 14 Pro Max has recently stopped responding to your touch and nothing else so far has worked, it’s possible there’s a serious hardware issue and the phone needs to be repaired or replaced.

But before you investigate that drastic option, you might want to perform a factory reset. This will reset the phone back to the state it was in when you first took it out of the box it’ll wipe out all software updates, installed apps, and your personal data. That’s not a problem if you have your phone set to perform regular cloud backups, but beware that this could result in the permanent loss of any data since the last backup. Even so, at this point you might not have a lot to lose.

Without the ability to use the iPhone’s touchscreen, you’ll need to start the factory reset on a computer:

  1. Connect your iPhone to your computer.
  2. Start iTunes (if you are on a Mac running MacOS 10.15 or higher, start Finder instead).
  3. Quickly press these buttons, one after the other: Volume Up, Volume Down, and the Side button.
  4. On a Mac, you should see the option to restore or update your iPhone. Click Restore and follow the directions to perform a factory reset. On a PC, click the Device button in the top left of iTunes. Then select Summary, then Restore, and follow the onscreen instructions.

If you can use your screen in some way, navigate to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Erase All Content and Settings.

After resetting, in rare cases, your touchscreen will work again.
