If your iPhone 13 mini charges with one cable, but not another, you know it’s the cable. If your cable charges other phones but not your own, you know it’s your iPhone. When your iPhone 13 mini starts to charge again, whatever the last thing you changed was the problem so you know what fixed your phone.
How to fix your iPhone 13 mini when it won’t charge
If you find your iPhone 13 mini not charging, here are seven potential fixes you can try yourself.
1. Try a different power outlet
Before you assume that something is wrong with your phone, make sure it’s not the outlet your device is plugged into that’s causing iPhone 13 mini charging problem. It could be switched off, or you could have blown a circuit.
If you’re charging your iPhone from a computer’s USB port, make sure the computer is fully awake (not in sleep or hibernation mode). Also try a different USB port, in case the USB port you were using has failed. Don’t try charging from a USB port built into a keyboard or USB hub connect it directly to a USB port on the computer itself.
2. Check your iPhone’s charging cable
Charger cables go through a lot. They’re rolled, unrolled, bent, frayed, shoved into bags and pockets. It’s easy for them to become worn over time and, eventually, break entirely.
Inspect your charging cable and look for any fraying or damage to the wire. Also, look at both ends, ensuring that nothing is stuck inside, and nothing is bent out of shape. If it is, try a different cable if you have one.
3. Test your iPhone’s power adapter
If there’s nothing wrong with the cable, the power adapter could still be the problem. Look at the charging adapter and make sure the cable is plugged totally into the port. If that’s not the issue, next inspect it and make sure nothing is stuck inside and that none of the pieces are bent.
If you can’t see anything wrong with it, either test your charge with a different adapter or, if you don’t have a spare, plug your cable into your computer. If your iPhone begins charging, then the adapter was to blame.
4. Check your iPhones Lightning port
If your iPhone 13 mini isn’t charging the way it usually does, your next stop should be to inspect the Charging Port. This is a lot more common than you might think. After all, we spend a lot of time jamming the phone port-end first into pockets, bags, and other places filled with dust, debris, and lint.
Look carefully, and if you see anything, carefully remove it gently with a toothpick or any other non-metallic, pointed object that will fit in the port. If you have a can of compressed air, briefly blast the port with that as well.
Try to charge your phone again. If it still doesn’t work, move on to the next troubleshooting step.
5. Try restarting your iPhone
If your iPhone 13 mini won’t charge after trying the above steps, restart the system and see if that fixes the issue. If your phone still has enough battery life, restart the phone and then try to charge it again. If your phone battery is very, very low under 5% or already complete dead, don’t bother with this step.
To restart your iPhone 13 mini, hold down the side button and either the volume until the Power off slider appears. Then drag the slider.
6. Don’t charge your iPhone wirelessly
If you are charging your iPhone 13 mini using a wireless charger, let’s simplify our troubleshooting by eliminating that as a problem right away.
Take off the phone from its wireless charging case, if you’re using one, and plug the phone into a power source with a Lightning cable. Again, check to see if it’s charging. If it is, congratulations you solved the problem. There’s some sort of problem with the phone’s wireless charging solution.
You might need to take your phone to an Apple store for service (or replace your wireless charging case) but in the meantime, you can keep the phone charged the old-fashioned way, with wires.
