iPhone 12 Pro Max Dropping Calls? Fix

If you find your iPhone 12 Pro Max dropping calls, there are a few things you can do to fix the issue.

Causes for iPhone 12 Pro Max Dropping Calls

Dropped calls happen for several reasons, many of which are often outside your control, including:

Out of range: If you move out of range of a tower, your call might drop during the ‘handoff’ from one tower to another.
Bad area: A call can drop if you enter an area with poor reception.
Antenna damage: If your iPhone 12 Pro Max internal antenna is damaged you might experience dropped calls.
Software issue: Faulty software and/or glitches can cause iPhone 12 Pro Max to drop calls.

How to Fix an iPhone 12 Pro Max That’s Dropping Calls

Tower-focused hardware problems are outside of your control, but you can reduce the chance of dropped calls by making sure your iPhone 12 Pro Max is in tip-top shape.

Ensuring you have the most recent updates and that potentially problematic settings are disabled helps narrow down the number of dropped calls. Take the time to familiarize yourself with your phone and carrier settings in the steps below so you can better identify the reason your calls cut out.

1. Enable/Disable Airplane Mode

Start by Enabling and then Disabling Airplane Mode on your iPhone 12 Pro Max. This should help in refreshing the network and resetting the wireless antennas on your iPhone.

Head over to Settings > Enable Airplane Mode by moving the switch to ON position.

Wait for 30 seconds and Disable Airplane Mode by moving the switch to OFF position.

2. Restart iPhone

The problem of iPhone 12 Pro Max dropping calls could be due to minor technical glitches, which can be often fixed by restarting your device.

Head over to Settings > General > scroll down and tap on Shut Down.

Allow iPhone to shut down fully > Wait for 30 seconds and Restart your iPhone.

3. Install iOS and Carrier Updates

iPhone can slow down and disconnect calls, if there is an iOS Update or Carrier updates waiting to be installed on your device.

Head over to Settings > General > Software Update.

On the next screen, wait for iPhone to check for updates > tap on Download and Install (if an Update becomes available).

You could also check to see if there are any carrier settings updates. If there are and you haven’t installed them yet, that might be interfering with your incoming calls.
Head over to Settings, then General, then About. Wait for a few seconds, then see if a pop-up appears indicating that an update is available. If there is one, then go ahead and install it. If you wait a few seconds and there’s no pop-up, then it means that there’s nothing available at the moment and it’s a different issue.

4. Eject and Reinsert SIM Card

The problem of Calls dropping on iPhone 12 Pro Max can be caused due the SIM Card becoming displaced, faulty or damaged.

To check, eject the SIM Card from your iPhone and inspect the SIM Card for visible signs of damage.

If you do not find signs of damage, reinsert the SIM Card back into your iPhone and see if the problem is now fixed.

5. Check Date & Time Setting

If you have been travelling, make sure your iPhone is able automatically Set its Date & Time by contacting Apple Servers.

Head over to Settings > General > Date & Time > enable Set Automatically option.

After Enabling Set Automatically option, make sure your iPhone is showing the right Time next to Time Zone entry.

6. Enable Caller ID

In some cases, Hiding Caller ID can lead to the problem of Calls dropping or Calls getting disconnected from iPhone 12 Pro Max.

Head over to Settings > Phone > Show My Caller ID and move Show My Caller ID switch to ON position.

Now, try to make a Call and see if the problem is fixed.

Note: You can disable Caller ID after the situation improves.

7. Turn Your iPhone Off When You Go to Bed

Yes, you heard it right. The reason this sometimes works is that your phone will be operating with a full cache memory. By turning it off when you are done using it for the day, you will automatically cause some apps to close and free up some space. Deleting the cache memory works as a refresher for the phone. Try this a few nights in a row and see if calls are still being dropped.

8. Close Some Background Apps Your iPhone is Running

If you have a lot of apps running on the background, then one of them might be to blame. Again, it is an issue with the cache memory of the device being full.
By closing down as many nonessential apps as you can, it makes it more likely that your iPhone 12 Pro Max will be able to handle calls without dropping them. You needn’t close them all, just the ones that you don’t need to have running every moment of the day. See if that helps.

9. Reset Network Settings

If above methods did not fix iPhone 12 Pro Max dropping calls issue, the problem could be due to Network Settings on your Device becoming faulty or corrupted.

To fix this issue, you will have Reset Network Settings on your iPhone to original Factory Default Settings.

Note: Network Settings Reset will not erase any data from your iPhone, it only erases your current network settings and Network Passwords.

Head over to Settings > General > Reset > select Reset Network Settings option.

On the confirmation pop-up that appears, tap on Reset to confirm.

After iPhone restarts, you will have to rejoin WiFi Network by entering your WiFi Network Password.
