What to do when Snapchat is not working, keeps Crashing or Freezing on iPhone 12 mini

Solution #1: Check if Snapchat is down

If Snapchat isn’t working on your iPhone 12 mini, the first thing to consider is that it isn’t working for anyone. There are two places to check whether or not Snapchat is down.

Down Detector is a site that tracks all kinds of services and whether or not they are down. Head to Down Detector’s Snapchat page and it will display No problems at Snapchat or Problems at Snapchat. You can also check the Live Outage Map to see if the issue is restricted to specific regions.

The second option is the official Snapchat Twitter support account. It will always have the latest about any Snapchat outages and how long it might be until it’s back up and running, so follow it if you want to stay up to date. If Snapchat crashes still when trying to send videos, move on to the next solution.

Solution #2: Restart and update Snapchat

If Snapchat is up and it still isn’t working on your iPhone 12 mini, close the app and reopen it. If the issues persists, try logging out of your account and logging back in. This will resync your local snaps with the server and may fix the problem. To force quit the app, navigate to the Home Screen and then swipe up from the bottom of your iPhone’s screen. This will reveal your recently used apps. Find Snapchat (you may swipe left or right) and then swipe up on the app.

While the app is closed, it might be worth checking for updates to ensure that you are using the latest version of Snapchat. You can update your apps manually or automatically. To manually update Snapchat, go to App Store > your profile icon. Alternatively, you can turn on Automatic Updates by going to Settings > App Store. When you log back into Snapchat, any snaps you missed will be waiting for you.

Solution #3: Restart your iPhone

Like many tech problems, the simplest solution is to restart the device. When Snapchat isn’t working on iPhone 12 mini, the same logic applies.

Restart your iPhone and it may instantly solve your Snapchat woes. To do this: press and hold the side button and either of the Volume buttons until the power off slider appears. Drag the slider. Wait for your iPhone to shut down completely. Then press and hold the side button until you see the Apple logo. If that doesn’t do the trick, move on to the next fix.

Solution #4: Check your connection

If the app or specific snaps aren’t loading, it may have to do with your internet connection. Try turning off data and switching to Wi-Fi. If the signal is weak, move closer to your router. Resetting the router may also solve the issue, even if your internet works on other devices.

If you are using a VPN, you may need to disable it while you use Snapchat. Snapchat might stop working if it detects any third-party apps, occasionally including VPNs. If a VPN is enabled on your iPhone, open the VPN app and turn it off. Alternatively, just launch the Settings app and tap on the VPN toggle.

Solution #5: Check app network permissions

If your internet connection is strong and works in other apps, Snapchat may not have the correct permissions to function. Necessary permissions can include Phone, Location, Storage, and others. There is a simple way to check Snapchat’s permissions from inside the app.

Here is how to edit permissions in Snapchat

  1. Launch Snapchat
  2. Go to your profile
  3. Tap Settings
  4. Tap Permissions
  5. Missing permissions will display Tap to enable. This will open the system settings to adjust all permissions for the app.

Solution #6: Clear Snapchat app cache

Most apps download media and other types of data onto your Device, and if those files are corrupted it can cause Snapchat to stop working on iPhone 12 mini. Clearing out these files won’t make you lose any data or snaps, so there’s nothing to worry about.

Here is how to clear Snapchat cache

  • Launch Snapchat
  • Go to your profile
  • Tap Settings
  • Scroll to the bottom and tap Clear Cache
  • Tap ‘Clear All
  • Snaps aren’t sending still?

If you’re not able to send snaps to your friends even though your network is fine, there are a few options left. First try restarting your iPhone as mentioned above.

If that doesn’t work, try clearing the conversation. This will remove all Snaps sent and received, so any unopened Snaps will be lost.

Here is hHow to clear a conversation in Snapchat

    1. Go to your profile
    2. Tap Settings
    3. Scroll down and tap Clear Conversation
    4. Select the conversation to clear and confirm

If you’ve cleared the conversation and the snaps still aren’t working, your best option is to remove your friend and add them back. This will also delete any Snaps send and received with that friend, but it may fix the issue.

Here is how to remove a friend in Snapchat

    1. Go to your profile
    2. Tap Add Friends
    3. Tap My Friends
    4. Select the friend to remove

Solution #7: Delete Snapchat and then reinstall

If Snapchat suddenly closes for no reason while using, delete the app app and then download and install again. Please note that data stored in the app may be lost. Here is how:

On your Home Screen, tap and hold the Snapchat icon. And then tap Remove App (-) icon and then tap Delete to confirm.
    Restart your iPhone.
Then go to the App Store, find Snapchat and re-download the app.

    Solution #8: Force restart

If Snapchat app keeps crashing or freezing on iPhone 12 mini after trying the above steps, try force restarting your Device. Here is how:

Press and quickly release the volume up button, press and quickly release the volume down button and then press and hold the power button until the Apple logo appears.
