iPhone 14 Plus Not Charging? 8 Ways To Fix The Problem

Last Updated On December 11, 2022 by Dave Johnson

Is your iPhone 14 Plus not charging? you’ve come to the right place. In this article, I’ll explai exactly why your iPhone 14 Plus won’t charge and show you exactly how to fix the issue.

If your iPhone 14 Plus isn’t charging properly, don’t immediately assume your phone charger or your battery is broken. Based on personal experience, the problem – and solution – may be much simpler than you think. If your iPhone 14 Plus isn’t charging properly or at all, take a look at these nifty ways to fix the problem.

Why an iPhone 14 Plus doesn’t charge

The problem occurs in various degrees. Either your iPhone 14 Plus won’t charge at all when it is plugged in, or it will only charge very slowly (sometimes barely faster than it is discharging). It’s a very common complaint, so here are a few solutions. Most iPhone charging problems are related to your USB cable or charger or even the port itself.

Use these tips to fix an iPhone 14 Plus that won’t charge properly

  1. Reboot Your iPhone

Before you start frantically searching Google for “why won’t my iPhone 14 Plus charge” try turning your phone off and on again. Often, the reason why your iPhone 14 Plus isn’t charging when plugged in is that there’s been a simple connection hiccup. To rule out a temporary glitch as the cause, a reboot should always be the first thing you do.

Restarting your phone will kill all background services and could solve your mobile charging problem. A restart also refreshes your phone’s core components in case one of them has crashed while performing a task.

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Tap General.
  3. Select Shut Down.

2. Clean the charging port

Do you keep your iPhone in the pocket of your jeans? If so, lint could be the culprit: we’ve lost track of the number of times the reason for unreliable USB charging turned out to be lint from the pocket of our Levis.

We’ve seen iPhones with charging ports choked with chocolate after they were chucked in a handbag alongside a packet of sweets.

If your iPhone 14 Plus charging port is filthy, you can clean it yourself. You don’t need special cleaning kits, nor do you need compressed air. Despite many tutorials online recommending it. Here’s how to clean your iPhone charging Port:

First, turn your iPhone off. While cleaning, keep away from the power button so that you don’t turn it on again by accident. Safety first!

Carefully inspect the Lightning port for signs of gunk using the flashlight. You will probably see buildup on the contacts at the very end, but also in the grooves that run along each side of the port.

Grab your toothpick, SIM ejector tool, or other thin object. Insert it into the Lightning port and scrape as much grime out as you can. It’s best to scrape the port, wipe down the toothpick or SIM ejector tool, then scrape again.

It might take a while to loosen the dried-on gunk. Keep checking with the flashlight till you can see the contacts at the end, and the port looks significantly cleaner.

Be careful not to apply too much pressure, even if you’re using a toothpick. You don’t want the toothpick to break and cause a bigger problem. You also don’t want to damage the contacts by applying too much pressure with a SIM ejector tool.

It doesn’t hurt to remember that the use of liquids to clean the contacts damages the device. Water, cleaning products, or any type of abrasive product will damage the connector, so they should be avoided at all costs. Likewise, cotton swabs, toilet paper, and cotton can not only leave lint but also damage the contacts on the USB plug. One of the few exceptions regarding liquids is the use of 70% isopropyl alcohol, recommended by some manufacturers.

3. Switch to a different charging cable

If you’re still pulling your hair out and wondering “why is my iPhone 14 Plus not charging?!”, then it’s time to take a look at your cable. Your charging cable might have a loose wire that’s preventing it from transmitting current properly.

To rule out a faulty cable, try charging your iPhone using a different cable. The easiest way to check whether the cable is the cause of your problem is to connect your phone to a computer via USB.

If your phone can charge via a PC, you can narrow the troubleshooting down to the adapter and socket. In case an alternative cable did the trick, invest in a new one. It’s always a good idea to purchase either original, first-party accessories or those from trusted third-party names like Anker—avoid junky knockoffs.

4. Diagnose a dodgy adapter

If your lightning cable is working properly, check the wall plug adapter –. We’ve faced issues in multiple chargers where the USB port becomes a little loose after endlessly plugging in and unplugging the cable.

It’s also advisable to check whether the same charger/cable combination works on a different iPhone because this will help you rule out whether your iPhone, charging cable or adapter is the culprit.

You should also make sure there isn’t a problem with your wall socket.

It’s also important to check if the combination of charger and cable is compatible with the iPhone 14 Plus, which helps rule out the phone as the cause of the problem. In the case of the charger, some models offer combinations of voltage and amperage for specific models, which can cause the charger to not charge the iPhone 14 Plus battery, and even if it does, it happens at a very slow rate.

5. Charge from the right source

Charging from a wall socket is always faster than charging via PC or laptop because computers’ USB ports deliver less power. A wall socket can deliver twice as much power as a USB port, and fast chargers can deliver as much as five times the power. All this results in much faster charging speeds. So if your iPhone 14 Plus is charging slowly and you’re connected to a laptop: there’s your problem.

If your wall charger doesn’t appear to be delivering the goods, check that it’s appropriate for your device. A charger from another phone might not deliver the right amount of juice — for example, a charger for a Bluetooth headset won’t put out as much power as one designed specifically for smartphones.

6. Switch it off

Using battery-intensive apps/features while you are charging your iPhone 14 Plus will affect how quickly it gains battery life. If you are charging while playing Call of Duty: Mobile at 100 percent brightness, the iPhone 14 Plus will naturally take longer to charge than it would with its screen, Wi-Fi, and 4G turned off.

Switch the device to airplane mode or off completely when you are charging if you want to see the fastest energy injection. Think of it as making your device take a power nap.

7. Could Your iPhone Have Water Damage?

Water and electrics don’t mix and even water-resistant phones need special care to keep them watertight. If your iPhone 14 Plus has gotten wet, and you’re now wondering why it won’t charge, then there’s a good chance that water is to blame for your problem.

Don’t attempt to charge your iPhone if there’s a possibility of water damage. First, you have to make sure your phone’s internals are completely dry.

There are several tricks you can try to save an iPhone if it dropped in water. You can blow hot air into it with a hairdryer, dump it in a bowl of rice, or try other methods. You need, though, to wait for a day or two before you can try charging it in again.

After 24 hours of drying off, try plugging your iPhone in and see what happens. Once the connections are dry you may find that it starts charging again.

8. Contact a pro when all else fails

In rare cases, when replacing the adapter or cable doesn’t do the trick, you may have a hardware issue with your iPhone 14 Plus. In this case, you need to contact Apple for support. If you live near an Apple Store, make a genius bar appointment and go to the store rather than calling the main Apple technical support line. Apple Store employees are accommodating and can most likely address the problem while you wait.
