Is your iPhone 14 Pro plugged into power but it’s not charging. When this happens the phone doesn’t show the green battery icon with a lightning charging indicator. Check out the best solutions to fix the problem when iPhone 14 Pro is plugged into power but not charging.
Note: information in this article apply to iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max.
Solutions to follow when iPhone 14 Pro isn’t charging when plugged in:
1. Enable USB accessories on locked iPhone
When your iPhone 14 Pro is locked, and you plug it into charging, it may only start juicing up if you unlock the device. Designed to prevent unwanted accessories from connecting to your device and increase security, this feature may cause problem with some power banks, chargers, and cables. So, follow these steps to allow USB accessories even when your iPhone 14 Pro is locked. Doing so should fix the not charging issue of a locked device:
- Start the Settings app and tap Face ID & Passcode.
- Scroll down to Allow Access When Locked section and enable the switch next to USB Accessories.
Once this is done, your iPhone 14 Pro should start charging with any adapter, computer, etc., when you plug it in while it’s locked. So you’ll not have to unlock your iPhone before it starts charging.
2. Clean the Lightning port and retry
If your iPhone 14 Pro is not charging when plugged in, there could be dirt stuck inside its Lightning port. Grab a soft brush or a toothpick and give the Lightning port a thorough cleaning. Be careful and dont apply too much force, as that may cause extra damage.
Once cleaned, plug the Lightning cable into your iPhone and check if it starts charging or not.
3. Restart your iPhone
If your iPhone 14 Pro still doesn’t charge while plugged in, restart it and then try again. If it wasn’t charging or failing to show the charging indicator due to a minor software error, restarting the device should fix the problem. Simply go to Settings > General > Shut Down.
4. Try charging using a different lightening cable
Sometimes, your charging cable may appear fine on the outside, but it may have been damaged from the inside. So try using a different cable and see if your iPhone 14 Pro charges when plugged into power. If it does charge, your Lightning cable is to blame, and you’ll need to purchase a new one.
There is also a good chance a Lightning cable may not work well with one iPhone but work perfectly with another. For example, I had an MFi-certified Anker cable that used to give me trouble while charging my iPhone 14 Pro but worked perfectly with my other iPhones.
Please Note: While we strongly recommend using an Apple or MFi-certified Lightning cable and adapter, you can still use other non-certified chargers. But the fact is that MFi-certified accessories are safer, better quality, and usually work well.
5. Inspect the power source
If your iPhone 14 Pro is still not charging when plugged in, double-check to ensure the wall socket is switched on and supplying power. If you’re using an extension cord with a built-in fuse, try removing that and plugging the iPhone charging adapter directly into the wall socket.
In some cases, your iPhone’s charging adapter could be malfunctional. To rule this out, try using a different adapter and see if that works.
If you’re charging your iPhone with a power bank, ensure it has enough juice to pass on to your iPhone 14 Pro. In addition, make sure the power bank is turned on and can charge other devices.
In case you’re trying to charge your iPhone 14 Pro using your Mac or PC, make sure the computer is on and not in sleep mode. You may also try using different USB ports of your computer or the connected USB-C hub and see if that works. Sometimes, the USB-C hub may temporarily stop working if it becomes extremely hot.
Finally, try charging your iPhone through a different USB port or socket if you’re on a plane, train, and similar places. Sometimes, your device’ and accessory may not have any problem, but your phone can’t charge due to issues in the main power outlet.
6. Allow your iPhone to cool down
Is your iPhone 14 Pro too hot? In that case, iOS is designed to stop the charging until the device cools down. So, take off the iPhone case if you’re using one and allow the phone to cool down. You may want to shut down the device so that everything goes back to normal quicker.
7. Reset all settings
Still, iPhone 14 Pro not charging when connected to power? Before trying the final solution, try resetting all your iPhone settings. If your iPhone 14 Pro is not charging while plugged in due to a software glitch, resetting the device should fix the problem. Go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset all Settings.
8. Get the Lightning port fixed by Apple
If your iPhone 14 Pro is still not charging while plugged in, visit your nearest Apple Support or authorized service center for further help. If it isn’t charging due to hardware problems, Apple technicians will possibly repair the device by changing the Lightning port unit or the necessary connections.
9. Use wireless charging
If the Lightning port on your iPhone 14 Pro isn’t working, consider using a wireless charger until you get it fixed.
