Once connected, you can run apps that are optimized for CarPlay on your car’s screen, navigate, make calls, use Siri, and more. But, like anything in the tech world, Apple CarPlay can stop working, which is frustrating if you need it for your next quick trip or long ride.

Sometimes you may not be able to connect your iPhone 15 Pro to CarPlay. Another common issue is that CarPlay suddenly stops working or keeps disconnecting after it is connected, and this may start after an iOS update. Sometimes, your iPhone 15 Pro or iPhone 15 Pro Max might not be detected by CarPlay. Sometimes CarPlay may freeze and you may see a black screen. And lastly, you may have a CarPlay sound problem. Below. I’ll explain how to fix CarPlay not working on iPhone 15 Pro issue.

How to fix CarPlay not working on iPhone 15 Pro issue

Make sure that your country or region supports CarPlay

CarPlay is not available everywhere. So, if CarPlay is not working on your iPhone 15 Pro, you can check Apple’s website to see if CarPlay is available in your country or region.

Make sure your car or sterio supports CarPlay

To run the CarPlay app, you will need a car or stereo that’s compatible with CarPlay.

An increasing number of makes and models are compatible. The numbers are changing quickly. There are currently more than 800 car models. You can see the full list of compatible vehicles on the Apple website.

If you’re unsure if your car supports CarPlay, contact the vehicle manufacturer.

The following aftermarket stereos are also compatible with CarPlay:

  • Alpine
  • Sony
  • Blaupunkt
  • Kenwood
  • Clarion
  • JVC
  • Pioneer

Make sure that your iPhone has the latest version of iOS

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Tap General.
  3. Tap Software Update.
  4. Tap Download and Install and then follow the onscreen instructions.

Update CarPlay stereo firmware

Make sure that your CarPlay stereo is using the latest firmware from the car manufacturer. Check your car’s manual for more information.

Make sure that Siri is on

Open the Settings app and tap Siri & Search. Make sure the following settings are toggled on:

  • Listen for “Siri” or “Hey Siri”.
  • Allow Siri When Locked.
  • Press Side Button for Siri

Wireless? Make sure both Bluetooth and WiFi are enabled

Some cars support wireless Apple CarPlay. Depending on the display model, this connection may need either Bluetooth or Wi-Fi, or both simultaneously.

How to turn on bluetooth on iPhone

  1. Open the Settings app.
  2. Go into Bluetooth.
  3. Toggle Bluetooth on.

How to turn on Wi-Fi on iPhone

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Tap Wi-Fi.
  3. Make sure that Wi-Fi is turned on.

Toggle Airplane Mode

If both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi are enabled but CarPlay is still not working on your iPhone 15 Pro, turn on Airplane Mode on your phone, wait 10 seconds and turn it off..

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Toggle on Airplane Mode.
  3. Wait 10 seconds and then toggle off Airplane Mode.

Doublecheck your cable

If you have a wired connection, make sure your cable is working. A lot of CarPlay connection problems occur because of a faulty cable. If you see frequent disconnections or CarPlay is not working on iPhone 15 Pro at all, the cable might be the problem. So first and foremost, make sure that your cable is connected properly.

It’s also possible that your car requires the iPhone to be plugged into a specific port, so read the user manual to find out which one you should use for CarPlay. It typically has a CarPlay or smartphone icon on or near the port cap.

Finally, check your charging port for any debris or damage. Additionally, make sure the USB-C cable is in good condition. Check for obvious signs of damage and, if possible, swap the cable out and try again.

It’s best to use the cable that came with your iPhone 15 Pro. If you use a third-party cable, make sure it is MFi certified.

Having said that, you don’t have to worry about carrying a cable around if your car supports Wireless CarPlay (check with your car manufacturer).

Restart your iPhone and your car

It’s one of the most common troubleshooting tips: restart it! I’ve found the same applies to CarPlay not working on iPhone 15 Pro. First, try unplugging your phone and plugging it back in. This often fixes the problem. If that doesn’t work, turn the phone off and back. Lastly, you can try turning the car off and on again, which I’ve had to do a few times.

Make sure CarPlay is not restricted

If your iPhone 15 Pro isn’t detected by CarPlay, make sure that CarPlay isn’t restricted.

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Tap Screen Time.
  3. Tap Content & Privacy Restrictions.
  4. If Content & Privacy Restrictions is on, tap Allowed Apps, and make sure that CarPlay is enabled.

Reconnect CarPlay

While unusual, it’s possible that your CarPlay connection could have become corrupted, so you can tell CarPlay to forget your car and reconnect it from scratch.

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Tap General.
  3. Tap CarPlay.
  4. Tap your car.
  5. Tap Forget This Car.

Now youll need to set up CarPlay again.

Here is how:

Depending on your car:

  • Simply plug your iPhone 15 Pro into the USB-C port in your car.
  • Or if your car supports wireless CarPlay, go to Settings > General > CarPlay, tap Available cars, and then select your car.
