If your iPhone 12 Pro isn’t ringing when people call or text you, there could be a few different user, software, or hardware related reasons for this.
How to fix iPhone 12 Pro not ringing issue
To figure out what’s wrong with your iPhone 12 Pro, try a few possible user-error fixes before moving into software or hardware troubleshooting. Here’s a list of eight things to troubleshoot.
1. Check that your iPhone isn’t on Silent
This is the most common reason for iPhone 12 Pro not ringing and the easiest to fix. You may have just accidentally put your iPhone on silent without realizing it. If you can still hear other media, like videos or music, this is likely the issue.
This might sound basic, but check to see if your iPhone is set to vibrate. Check the small switch above the volume buttons. If this is in silent mode, the phone won’t make any noise. Try switching the position of the switch. It should, of course, be flipped up toward the screen. If it’s down (with a band of red visible) it’s set to silent, and might have accidentally been bumped into that position.

2. Increase your iPhone volume
It’s possible your iPhone’s volume is too low to hear it ringing. To fix a volume issue, press the Volume up button on the left side of the phone until you can hear something.
You can then test if your iPhone 12 Pro ringer is not working by playing music or a video. If you hear noise, the issue is low ringer volume, not your ringer not working.
3. Check that your iPhone isn’t in Airplane Mode
Another common ringtone issue is your iPhone accidentally being set in Airplane Mode. It’s pretty easy not to realize your iPhone is in Airplane Mode for a short time as it will simply appear as if no one is calling you. If you’re also having trouble accessing the internet when not on Wi-Fi, or you can’t send or receive text messages, this is likely the issue. Here’s how to turn Airplane Mode off.
Step 1: Open the Settings app.
Step 2: Go to "Airplane Mode" and make sure the switch is toggled off.
4. Check that your iPhone isn’t in Focus mode
Focus is an iPhone feature you turn on expressly when you don’t want it to ring. While you can set it on a timer, you can also toggle it on and leave it on until you’re ready to turn it off manually. Naturally, this feature is another common culprit of user-related issues with phone ringtones.
If Focus Mode is active, other audio will still work, however, the incoming calls and texts alerts will be silenced. Disabling this feature is quick and easy.
Step 1: Swipe down from the upper right of your Home screen.
Step 2: If the Focus icon is highlighted, tap it to disable the feature.

Step 1: Open the Setting app.
Step 2: Go to Phone
Step 3: Tap on "Call forwarding."
Step 4: Make sure "Call forwarding" is off.

6. Make sure the number isn’t blocked on your iPhone
Apple gives you the ability to block specific phone numbers , which is handy if you get a lot of telemarketing and other spam phone calls. To make sure you didn’t accidentally block an important number by accident, follow these steps.
Step 1: Open the Settings app.
Step 2: Tap "Phone."
Step 3: Tap "Blocked Contacts"
Step 4: In the list of blocked calls, see if you have accidentally blocked any numbers. To unblock it, swipe it to the left and tap "Unblock."
7. Turn off Silence Unknown Callers
Apple gives you the ability to turn on Silence Unknown Callers to avoid getting calls from people you don’t know. This blocks phone numbers that you’ve never been in contact with and don’t have saved in your contacts list. If you’ve previously texted with someone using their phone number or if a person has shared their phone number with you in an email, a phone call from that number will go through. If your iPhone 12 Pro won’t ring, you may want to disable this feature.
To turn off Silence Unknown Callers:
Step 1: go to Settings
Step 2: Tap Phone
Step 3: Scroll down, tap Silence Unknown Callers, and turn off the feature.
8. Check if it’s a ringtone issue
If you downloaded a third-party or purchased a ringtone to use on your iPhone and it isn’t working, it could be a software glitch causing the sound to fail when someone calls you. Try switching to one of the iPhone’s pre-set ringtones, and see if that solves your problem. Here’s how you can access your default ringtones list.
Step 1: Open the Settings app.
Step 2: Select "Sounds & Haptics."
Step 3: Tap ringtone.
Step 4: Browse pre-downloaded tones and choose one to preview it.
9. Try restarting your iPhone
If the above methods didn’t work, it’s time to try the age-old solution of turning it off and turning it back on. Restarting your iPhone will correct minor glitches and usually fixes small bugs.
Step 1: Open the settings app.
Step 2: Go to General.
Step 3: Tap shut down.
10. Check whether bluetooth device’s are connected
If you’re not hearing a call, it’s possible your phone is ringing during incoming calls but sending the audio to another source, like Bluetooth headphones or another device. To turn off Bluetooth pairing:
- Open Settings.
- Tap Bluetooth.
- Turn off Bluetooth.
Alternatively:
Pull down from the top right of your screen to open Control Center and tap Bluetooth to turn it off.
11. Try performing a factory reset
If you’ve tried all of the previous troubleshooting options and nothing has fixed the issue, your iPhone 12 Pro not ringing may be more than a small glitch. Worst case scenario. Perform a system backup of your iPhone and do a factory reset to see if that fixes the issue.
Step 1: Open settings.
Step 2: Tap general.
Step 3: Tap Transfer or Reset iPhone.
Step 4: Tap erase all content and settings.
12. Check that it’s not a hardware problem
If absolutely none of the other solutions work, your iPhone’s speakers may be damaged in some way. This is especially likely if you’re having trouble playing other audio as well.
If this is the case, contact Apple support or the store where you bought it from to see what can be done.
