Last Updated On August 3, 2022 by iPhoneGeeks Staff

Is your iPhone 12 Pro CarPlay not working? Are you unable to connect your iPhone 12 Pro to CarPlay? Does CarPlay suddenly stops working or keeps disconnecting after it is connected? Is your iPhone 12 Pro not Detected by CarPlay? Does CarPlay freeze and show a black screen? Lastly, are you experiencing CarPlay sound problem?

If The answer to any of the above questions is yes, we certainly feel your pain. There are a number of things you can try out if CarPlay is not working on your iPhone 12 Pro, none of which require any technical knowledge whatsoever. Each solution only takes a few minutes to complete, so you’ll be able to go through this entire list in no time.

We’ve listed a few of the most common fixes below, which should hopefully solve your iPhone 12 Pro CarPlay not working issue. Let’s get started.

What Is Apple CarPlay?

CarPlay is Apple’s standard that allows you to connect your iPhone to your car and display a simplified iOS-like interface on its infotainment system. This allows you to access certain apps for use in your vehicle. CarPlay makes good use of Siri, allowing you to issue commands and listen to media without taking your eyes off the road.

But what if your Apple CarPlay stops working on your iPhone 12 Pro? It could be CarPlay won’t connect, CarPlay apps won’t open properly, or you can’t hear anything when CarPlay is connected. The good news is you don’t necessarily have to go out and buy a brand new car. In most cases, you can fix iPhone 12 Pro CarPlay not working issue easily and quickly.

Fix iPhone 12 Pro CarPlay not working issue

here is what to do if your iPhone 12 Pro CarPlay is not working properly:

Make sure your iPhone and your car’s infotainment system are turned on

If you find iPhone 12 Pro not working with CarPlay, the first thing to do is to check the most basic settings. First, start by making sure your iPhone and car infotainment system are switched on. Also make sure that if your car has a “activate” option, make sure that that option is selected. These might seem like ULTRA obvious things, but often those are the last things people think to check!

make sure you’re not in Airplane Mode

If the above two things check out, the next step is to make sure you’re not in Airplane Mode. If your car supports a wireless connection to CarPlay, check your iPhone to make sure you’re not in Airplane Mode. Airplane Mode prevents your phone from making any wireless connections, so this could be preventing your phone from communicating with your vehicle. If airplane mode is already off, turn it on, wait 10 seconds and turn it back off. Go to Settings > Airplane Mode.

Make sure Bluetooth is turned on

If you’re using a wireless connection, make sure that Bluetooth is on, and the iPhone is connected to the car. If your Bluetooth is off, you won’t be able to connect the device.

If you’re having issues connecting with CarPlay, remove the Bluetooth connection between your iPhone 12 Pro and vehicle. Restart your iPhone and try to use CarPlay again.

Another thing to try is to get rid of any connections to another vehicle. Check your Bluetooth settings to see if there are any old connections still hanging around.

Head to Settings > General > CarPlay to see if you have any other CarPlay connections with another vehicle. Try deleting these to see if it fixes the problem.

It’s also worth a try to delete your current vehicle’s connection here and set it up again.

Make sure CarPlay is allowed when locked

If CarPlay isn’t enabled when locked, it can’t activate if your iPhone screen is turned off. To check this, go to Settings > General > CarPlay > Your Car > and turn on “Allow CarPlay While Locked”.

Make sure CarPlay is not restricted

Please check to ensure that CarPlay is not restricted. On your device, go to Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions > Allowed Apps and make sure that CarPlay is enabled.

Make sure Siri is enabled

Siri needs to be enabled for CarPlay to work. If it’s not, go to Settings > Siri & Search and make sure the following options are enabled:

  • Listen for “Hey Siri”
  • Press Side Button for Siri
  • Allow Siri When Locked

The Allow Siri When Locked option is the one that most often trips people up because it isn’t always enabled.

Restart your iPhone

Restarting your iPhone could be one of the easiest ways to fix the Carplay connectivity issue. Go to Settings > General > Shutdown.
Swipe the power slider from left to right to turn off the phone.

If you need to do a “force restart,” then quickly press the “volume up” and then the “volume down” button then hold the power button,

Restart your car’s infotainment system

If the above methods didn’t work, there is most likely an issue with your vehicle’s infotainment system. Restarting your car infotainment system can resolve your issue. To do this, simply press and hold the volume or power knob.

Check your USB cable

Sometimes, the cable that you’re using to connect your iPhone to the system may be faulty. If not connected wirelessly, inspect your USB cables. If you’re already using one of Apple’s first-party cables, it’s still worth trying a few different ones and see if it solves the problem. If it does, our recommendation is to purchase a new USB cable for your iPhone.

Try a different USB port

If you’re not connected wirelessly, make sure you’re plugged into the correct port. Some cars have multiple USB ports that support CarPlay.

If the port you’ve used in the past isn’t working, try plugging into other USB ports if they are available. In addition, ensure that your USB cable is connected properly. Finally, ensure that your charging port and the USB port are clean and there are no damages.

Forget and reestablish your CarPlay connection

Please go to Settings > General > CarPlay, tap your car then choose Forget This Car.
Set up CarPlay again
If your iPhone supports wireless CarPlay, go to Settings > General > CarPlay. Tap Available cars and select your car.

If you’re using a wired connection, simply plug your iPhone into the USB port in your car and follow any on-screen prompts that appear.

Update iOS

If your phone is not updated, you may not have the necessary drivers or software to complete the connection to CarPlay. Updating could help resolve any issues you might be having. Go to Settings > General > Software Update. If an update is available, tap Download and Install and follow the onscreen instructions.

Contact Apple support

If you’re still having trouble getting connected, or if you’re still experiencing issues with how CarPlay performs on iPhone 12 Pro, then you’ll need to contact Apple Support to see if they can help you with the issue.
