Your iPhone 12 mini is definitely connected to Wi-Fi, so why is there no Internet connection? Find out what’s going on and how to solve it in this short troubleshooting guide.

Why is my iPhone 12 mini connecting to WiFi but not to the Internet?

Your iPhone 12 mini might be on Wi-Fi but with no Internet connection for a range of different reasons. It could be down to your router, your Internet service provider, or your iPhone software.

Whatever the cause of your problem, you should be able to fix it with our tips below.

How can my iPhone 12 mini have WiFi but no Internet?

We often use the terms interchangeably, but your Wi-Fi is not actually the same as your Internet connection. Wi-Fi connects you to a local network. And usually, that network connects to the Internet.

Your router has an ethernet cable connected to the back of it. If you were to unplug that cable you’d lose Internet connection. But you’d still be able to connect to the Wi-Fi network.

How do I fix when there’s no Internet connection on my iPhone 12 mini?

Solution #1: Enable Airplane Mode and Disable it

When my iPhone is connected to WiFi but no internet access, I always do this first. This can help you quickly resolve the issue. To do this, go to Control Centre or open the Settings app and tap on Airplane Mode toggle to enable it. After 20 seconds, tap it again to disable Airplane mode.

Once your iPhone reconnects to Wi-Fi, try visiting a website and see if it loads or not.

Solution #2: Turn OFF/ON Wi-Fi

Simply turn off Wi-Fi and turn it back on. For this do not use the Control Centre. Instead, open the Settings app, tap on Wi-Fi

Wait for 30 seconds and tap the wi-Fi toggle again and let your iPhone connect to the Wi-Fi network.

Now, launch your browser and try to visit a site such as apple.com or iPhoneGeeks.com. If it doesn’t load, check the next solution.

Solution #3: Restart your iPhone

To do this: press and hold the side button and either of the volume buttons until you see the power off slider. Drag the slider. Wait a few seconds for your iPhone to turn off. Then press and hold the side button until the Apple logo appears.

Solution #4: Restart your modem/router

If your router and modem are sperate devices, restart both of them. You may have a router problem especially if the Internet doesn’t work on your other devices, such as your Mac, iPad, etc. Here is how:

Unplug your router and modem (unplug the power cord).
Wait at least 30 seconds.
Then plug your router and modem back in (reconnect the power cable) (first your modem and then your router).
Wait at least 1 minute and test to see if your iPhone 12 mini can connect to the Internet.
Furthermore:

Update your Wi-Fi router with the latest firmware. Contact the manufacturer for help.
Make sure that your iPhone is not too far away from your router. Make sure that you are within range so that you get a signal. Poor wireless strength can lead to these types of problems.
Also, check all your cables and connections. Make sure that everything is properly plugged in. Also, make sure that your cables are not damaged, cut, or broken. Your problem may be caused by loose or disconnected cables. They are firmly inserted. Disconnect and reconnect again.

Solution #5: Internet service

You may have issues at the provider’s end, check with your cable company or Internet provider. There are two possibilities:

There may be a service outage in your area.
There may be issues with your account. For example, it is possible that your service may have been suspended for some reason.
If you’re using a Wi-Fi network at a company, school, hotel, store, airport, coffee shop, or other location, find an employee for assistance.

You may need to contact your internet service provider for further help.

Solution #6: Forget your Wi-Fi network then reconnect

Don’t do this unless you know the password for your Wi-Fi connection. Otherwise, you won’t get back online even if the Internet is working.

To do this, go to Settings > Wi-Fi then tap on the network name you want to use.

You’ll see the option Forget This Network. Tap this.

Next go back to the Wi-Fi section and tap on the network name once more. You’ll need to enter the details again.

Solution #7: Disable Wi-Fi Assist

With the release of iOS 9, Apple introduced Wi-Fi Assist, which will supplement a poor Wi-Fi connection with your cellular network. By default, this is enabled and it could be the cause for why your Wi-Fi connection is poor if the “handoff” between Wi-Fi and Cellular networks was not done correctly.

Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
Tap Cellular.
Scroll all the way to the bottom.
Tap the toggle next to Wi-Fi Assist to disable.
If the issues are solved, then you can leave this disabled. But you may want to remember these steps for later if you want to re-enable it.

Solution #8: Are you using a VPN?

Using a VPN can be extremely useful, especially if you are trying to keep your online information protected. However, VPNs can act up from time-to-time and can cause your internet connection to not work properly. If a VPN is enabled on your iPhone, open the VPN app and turn it off. Alternatively, just launch the Settings app and tap on the VPN toggle.

In addition, if you have installed many unnecessary VPN apps on your iPhone, try uninstalling a few. This will also delete their VPN profiles.

Solution #9: Make sure your date and time is correct

Your iPhone can set the time and date automatically.
It seems strange, but the wrong date or time can affect the Internet connection on your iPhone. Correct them in the settings. Go to settings > general > date and time. Ensure that the date and time is set correctly. Finally, make sure the switch next to set automatically is turned on.

Solution #10: Update iOS, if you can get online

Check for software updates on your iPhone
Some users can access the Internet by restarting their router or their iPhone. Often this doesn’t last long. But if you can get online, check for new iOS updates on your iPhone.

Open the Settings app.
Tap General.
Select Software Update.
If an update is available, download it and then once prompted, install the update.

solution #11: Reset iPhone Network Settings

The next option in the list of solutions is to reset the Network Settings on your iPhone. It is an effective solution that clears all saved settings and networks and reconfigures your device’s WiFi. To do this:

  1. Go to settings app on your iPhone

  2. Now click on General.

  3. Click on the Reset button.

  4. Now select the Reset Network Settings.

  5. You will now receive a warning as to what are the things that are going to get reset. Click on the “Reset Network Settings” option.

  6. Now try connecting to the WiFi network again and see if you’re able to fix iPhone 12 mini Connected to WiFi but no Internet access issue.

Solution #12: Force restart your iPhone

There’s an old adage in the tech community to just “turn it off and turn it on again”. That adage still applies in 2021, as these devices are nothing more than computers in your pocket, and a good ole’ reboot can help fix your issues.

Quickly press and release the Volume Up button.
Quickly press and release the Volume Down button.
Press and hold the Side button until the Apple logo appears.
Release the Side button.
After your iPhone is finished booting, head into the Settings app and check to see if the Wi-Fi network was reconnected to. Then, open your browser of choice and see if the problems have been solved.

Solution #13: Perform a Factory Reset on your iPhone

This is the last resort that you can try if all of the above methods fail. If nothing else works, you can try to reset your iPhone to the factory settings and see if it resolves the problem. Opting for a factory reset would delete all your apps, their data and also other data like photos, videos, and music from your iPhone. Due to this reason, it is advisable that you create a backup before going for a factory reset. To reset your iPhone:
1. Go to Settings of your phone.

  1. Tap on General.

  2. Click on the Reset button

  3. Now click on erase all content and settings.

  4. This will take some time, so leave your phone idle for a few minutes.

Once your iPhone restarts again, try using your wi-Fi.

  1. The only way I got it to work was to restart the device. But that’s a temp solution. If I leave my house and come back the no internet is back. Could it be the latest iOS? I have 14.6.

  2. I did all of this and ended up having to chat with Apple support. Was fixed for a bit. Did a back up and did the system update for IOS 15. Had to re-set up my whole phone. Usually use my carrier service unless I am doing an update or backup. Decided to check again and not working again. Bad phone? Only a few months old.
