You’re ready to start your day and oh no! Dead cell battery. Fortunately, there’s help. Here’s how to charge your iPhone 12 Pro faster.
You’re just about to head out for the day and grab your iPhone—but you notice you forgot to charge it and your battery power is in the single digits. Here’s how to charge your iPhone 12 Pro faster, or at least make sure you don’t lose any more power.
How to Make Your iPhone 12 Pro Charge Faster
Here’s some helpful tips on how to make your iPhone 12 Pro charge faster:
1. Shut Down Your iPhone
One simple trick that you may have never thought about is to simply turn off your iPhone while it’s charging. By reducing the number of tasks that your phone is doing at the same time, you’ll allow iPhone 12 Pro to charge fast.
Pulling a wagon full of bricks up a hill would slow you down a lot. The more bricks you take out, the faster you can move. The same logic applies here. Take some of the workload off your iPhone and it won’t have to overcome as much to charge faster.
In other words: When you turn off your phone while it’s charging, all the power can go straight to charging rather than being used to power the iPhone and charge at the same time.
Press and hold the power and the volume up (or down) buttons together until you see the power off slider. Then drag the slider from left to right.
2. Turn On Airplane Mode
The major share of battery is consumed by the iPhone’s constant requirement to stay connected to your mobile carrier. When it is switched on, it obviously causes your iPhone 12 Pro to charge slowly. If you really can’t tear yourself away from your iPhone, Airplane Mode is a drastic way to effectively keep it off limits and make charging slightly faster.
This is because it turns off mobile data and WiFi.
But, keep in mind, it also means you won’t be able to make or receive phone calls, use apps, or browse the internet.
To enable Airplane Mode, swipe down from the upper-right corner of the screen to reveal the control center.
Then tap the aeroplane icon, which should turn orange to show that it’s on.
You can also go to Settings, tap Airplane Mode, then tap the slider to turn it on.
3. Avoid using your iPhone while it’s charging
If you want to charge your iPhone 12 Pro faster, take a break from your device.
We know it’s hard to stay away from Instagram and Snapchat, but it could result in your phone hitting max power quicker.
It may also ween you off your social media habit – so it’s a double-win.
Also, if you can, try not to make long phone calls while your iPhone is charging as this type of activity only serves to slowdown the process.
4. Lower the screen brightness
Screen brightness is another battery hog that can cause your device to charge slowly, so make sure it’s turned down to make iPhone 12 Pro charge faster.
You can quickly do this via Control Center, which has a brightness bar that can be dragged up or down.
Or using the brightness slider in Settings>Display & Brightness.

5. Plug into a Wall Outlet
To ensure that you have the most current possible running through your charging cable, you should use a wall outlet. Using the USB port on a laptop or desktop computer can charge your iPhone, but it often does so much slower.
In fact, if you use the USB port on a computer, you may even see a notification that says “Device is Charging Slowly.” If you want to maximize the power output potential of the charging cable, a wall outlet is always going to be the faster option.
6. Don’t Use Wireless Charging
Wireless charging is convenient and safe but it is not the fastest way to charge an iPhone 12 Pro. As the phone gets hotter on the pad, the amount of charge is reduced to protect the battery. This means wireless charging is slower than charging via a USB-C cable.
What makes wireless charging slower is the energy that’s lost to heat. This is exacerbated when the coils in your iPhone aren’t perfectly aligned with the coils in the wireless charger. Not only is this method slower, but it also uses more electricity, too.
The iPhone 12 Pro includes a magnetic area on the back of the device, called MagSafe. This can be used with MagSafe accessories like the Apple MagSafe puck charger or the Belkin MagSafe dock. MagSafe is essentially a better version of Qi as the magnets auto-align with the case. Using the secure magnetic attachment, Apple enables up to 15 watt charging for MagSafe chargers. So for the best wireless charging, choose MagSafe over Qi … but the USB-C cable is still the fastest overall.

7. Remove the Protective Case
Protective cases are there to shield your iPhone from scratches, bumps, and the most dreaded of events – accidental falls.
But certain cases may hinder the natural heat flow of the device. This could cause your iPhone to overheat during charging.
As a safety feature, iPhones are designed to automatically decrease charging speed whenever your device seems to heat up, or if there is a rise in the surrounding air temperature.
So, it would definitely help to remove the protective case temporarily just to let your device cool down and fast charge your iPhone 12 Pro.
8. Get a Compatible Fast Charger
Apple no longer includes the standard USB charging brick with the iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro, iPhone 12 mini or iPhone 12 Pro Max. There is only one cable included in the box — a USB-C to Lightning cable. The fastest way to charge iPhone 12 Pro is to use Apple’s 20W USB-C charger. Using a USB-C cable and USB-C charger will allow the iPhone 12 Pro to charge at faster speeds. Using USB-C, you can charge the iPhone 12 Pro to 50% in about 30 minutes. The highest wattage the iPhone 12 Pro will use is around 22 watts, so a 20 watt or 30 watt charger will result in the about same charging speed. But basically any USB-C charger will be significantly faster than the old USB-A chargers.
9. Turn Off Optimized Battery Charging
The iPhone 12 Pro comes with the Optimized Battery Charging feature enabled by default. This allows the iPhone to intelligently handle charging speed and capacity whenever the phone is charging. Most often, the iPhone 12 Pro will reach full charge by the time you are ready to use it again. However, the iPhone may stop charging in certain cases at 80-percent full, instead of climbing to maximum capacity. This may seem strange, but the purpose is to extend battery life of your iPhone. This feature can be turned off, but in most cases, it should be left enabled. By leaving the charging under the control of the iPhone 12 Pro, the phone should have a good charge level whenever needed and the battery should end up with a longer lifespan.
The optimized Battery Charging Feature might be the reason why your iPhone 12 Pro takes too long to charge after a certain level or at a specific time. While it’s good for the battery, you can disable it whenever you want to charge your iPhone 12 Pro quickly. To change this option, open the Settings app, scroll down, tap ‘Battery,’ then ‘Battery Health’ and look for ‘Optimized Battery Charging.’ Switching this off will enable complete charging at the fastest speed possible. See this article if optimized battery charging is not working on iPhone 12 Pro.
Unless you are certain of the need to charge completely, and use the iPhone sooner than usual, Apple’s optimized charging should remain enabled, in order to extend the lifespan of your iPhone battery.
