Best iPhone 12 camera tips and tricks
Here are the best iPhone 12 camera tips and tricks in 2021:
Faster Shooting vs. Quality
One of the best things about the iPhone’s 12 camera is how easy and fast you can take pictures. You can tap the shutter button and it’ll instantly take a picture, or even use the Burst feature to take an infinite amount of shots immediately.
However, it’s not all great news. In order to take many pictures quickly, you’re iPhone might need to compromise the quality of each picture. That’s so it won’t stutter when keeping up with all the pictures you’re taking.
Fortunately, you can change this so your iPhone prioritizes the quality instead of faster shooting. Here’s how you can do it:
- Start the Settings app.
- Scroll down and tap on Camera.
- Scroll down again and enable or disable Prioritize Faster Shooting.
If you disable Prioritize Faster Shooting, your iPhone 12 will take higher quality pictures but it won’t take pictures as quickly as before. You’ll need to test it around and decide whether you prefer quality over quantity
Master Night Mode
Night Mode is a fairly new feature that Apple launched back in 2019. This feature helps you capture better pictures in low-light environments, and you’ve probably already used it without even realizing it.
Night mode is an automatic feature that your iPhone activates when it detects low light. However, there are still a couple of iPhone 12 Camera tricks you can use to help Night Mode take even better pictures.
First, try to hold your camera still. The less you move it, the better the shot will be. Also, one thing you might not know is that you can adjust the timing of Night Mode to bring in more or less light.
Night Mode automatically sets the time it’ll take to take a shot depending on how dark the environment is. That said, you can change it manually to take a better picture.
All you need to do is this.
- Start the Camera app.
- Before taking a picture in low light, tap on the Night Mode icon located on the top left corner of your screen. It should be yellow.
- You’ll see a slider above the shutter button. Slide it to the left or the right to increase or decrease the timer or to turn it off completely.
Mirror Front-Facing Camera
The front-facing camera on your iPhone 12 can be a bit weird when taking selfies. You see, when you’re taking a selfie, you’ll see yourself as if you’re looking in a mirror. But when you check the picture in the Photos app, you’ll see it the other way around.
For instance, if you take a selfie holding your right hand up, the Camera app will show you a mirror version of yourself. But once you see the picture, you’ll see it as if you’re holding your left hand up.
You can actually change this so your selfies show a mirror version of yourself. Here’s how you can do it:
- Open the Settings app.
- Scroll down and go to Camera.
- Under Composition enable Mirror Front Camera.
Test Apple ProRAW
One of the few exclusive iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max features is Apple ProRAW. We’ve talked about this feature before, but it’s basically a type of image file that’s completely raw, with little to no edits from the camera software.
This means you can completely edit your pictures however you want, making it easier for you to give them the look you want. Of course, this takes more time and effort, but if you’re into photography you have to try this feature.
Here’s how you can enable Apple ProRaw on your iPhone 12 Pro or iPhone 12 Pro Max:
- Start the Settings app.
- Scroll down and tap Camera.
- Tap on Formats.
- Turn on Apple ProRAW.
After you enable it, you can turn ProRAW on and of on the Camera app, by tapping on the RAW button on the top right corner of your screen.
Keep in mind that Apple ProRAW files take much more space on your iPhone, and they won’t be as edited as your regular picture, so this feature isn’t the most ideal if you just want to take casual pictures. Still, it’s worth giving it a shot if you already have an iPhone 12 Pro model.
Learn to Use Auto FPS
If you like taking videos at night, you might have noticed that your video files aren’t as clear as they should. Some of the footage might look a bit washed out at night. If that’s the case for you, that’s probably your iPhone 12 trying to help you by using Auto FPS.
Auto FPS is a feature that can reduce the frame rate of your video to improve low light. Although it may be useful on some occasions, it’s best to learn how to turn it off when needed.
- Open Settings.
- Tap on Camera.
- Tap on Record Video.
- Scroll down and tap on Auto FPS.
- Select Off.
You can play around with this feature to find when you should use Auto FPS and when you shouldn’t.
