iPhone 12 mini Freezing Up? Here’s the fix

Last Updated On August 3, 2022 by iPhoneGeeks Staff

When an iPhone 12 mini freezes, it becomes difficult to place calls, read emails or complete other important tasks. There are several steps you can take to resolve these issues, from restarting your device to restoring it. Begin with the most basic steps to troubleshoot iPhone 12 mini freezing up issue and progress to more involved steps, if the issue isn’t resolved.

Fix iPhone 12 mini freezing up issue

Restart Your iPhone

If your iPhone 12 mini suddenly freezes or refuses to wake from sleep, you can sometimes resolve the issue by restarting it. Press and hold the “Sleep/Wake” button and either the volume buttons until the “slide to power off” message appears. Slide the arrow to power off your phone. Turn your device back on by holding the “Sleep/Wake” button until the Apple icon appears. If this doesn’t resolve the issue, or you cannot power on your fully charged iPhone, try force restarting the device. Press and release the volume up button, press and release the volume down button, press and hold the “Sleep/Wake” button until you see the Apple logo.

Close Applications

Sometimes a particular application becomes unresponsive and causes your iPhone 12 mini to freeze. If you notice that your iPhone 12 mini freezes when running multiple apps, you can shut down the ones you aren’t using. Swipe up from the bottom of your screen. Your open apps will appear. Swipe up on the apps you are not using to close them.

Update the iOS

Sometimes running previous iOS software versions can hinder your iPhone’s performance or cause it to freeze, especially when using applications designed for use with the latest operating system. Additionally, Apple sometimes releases software updates designed to resolve freezing problems. You can update your device by going to settings > general > software update. Before updating, backup your data.

Restore Your iPhone

Restoring your iPhone is a time consuming process that you should only undertake if your iPhone is still freezing after you’ve tried the previous steps. To restore your iPhone, connect it to your computer with the USB-iPhone connector, select your iPhone in the “Devices” menu and navigate to the “Summary” tab. Choose “Restore,” and create a backup, if you haven’t recently made one. After restoring your phone, you can restore the iOS from a previous backup. If you still experience device problems after restoring from backup, restore your device and set it up as new. This prevents software bugs from transferring from the backup and returning to your device. You can still preserve the majority of your data through the syncing process.

Download a System Monitor app

Applications are available through the iTunes store that provide information on your iPhone’s performance, such as memory usage, system logs and cache information. By monitoring this information, you can spot problematic applications or determine that a particular setting is causing your iPhone 12 mini to slow down or freeze. Additionally, some of these applications allow you to release your phone’s system memory, which can improve your iPhone 12 mini performance and resolve certain freezing issues.
