Last Updated On August 3, 2022 by iPhoneGeeks Staff

Are text alerts not working on iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro or iPhone 12 Pro Max? Is your iPhone 12 randomly failing to alert you when a new iMessage or SMS comes in? If you are facing the above Issues, you’ve come to the right place.

Some Basic Things to Try

Before trying the troubleshooting tips below, make sure your iPhone 12 is running the latest version of iOS. Go to Settings > General > Software Update and install any available updates.

Check Settings

Is Do Not Disturb enabled? Head over to Settings > Do Not Disturb and check if it is on currently and take a look at the settings you have for Do Not Disturb. Do you have any scheduled Do Not Disturb times?
Check Silent Mode. Look at the switch on the left side of your iPhone 12. If the switch is pushed away from your screen and showing an orange color strip, you have Silent Mode enabled. Flip the switch to turn it off.
Check if any of your conversations have Hide Alerts enabled. Head to your conversation, click on the image, name or number that appears at the top of you screen. Click on the info button. Look to see if Hide Alerts is toggled to the On position.

Disable Filter Unknown Senders

Follow these steps to disable filter unknow senders in messages

  1. Open the Settings app.
  2. Tap Messages.
  3. Scroll and disable the Filter Unknown Senders option.

Reset iMessage

Some users half reported that they managed to fix the notifications bug by disabling Messages and turning it back On. Here’s how:
Go to Settings -> Messages and disable iMessage. Reboot iPhone and re-enable Apple’s free messaging service! Does it fix the missing Messages notifications?

Use Apple Watch

This option is rather a workaround. We’ve noticed that even when text alerts are not working on iPhone 12 the Apple Watch still does its job and displays the notifications on your wrist.
If you own a watchOS device you can trust it, to announce you when new texts are available!

Restart your iPhone

Press and hold both the side button and either volume button until the power slider appears on the screen. Drag the slider from left to right.

Exiting Conversations

Although not a fix, some of our readers have reported that when they first exit a conversation before they close the Messages app, they will receive their new text notifications. Specifically, after reading or opening a message:

Click the back arrow in the top-left corner of the Messages screen.
Once you are on the Messages screen that lists all of your conversations, you may close the app.

I hope that this troubleshooting guide has been able to help you fix your Apple iPhone 12 that has some notifications issues. If you find this post helpful, please share it with others.
