A couple of users have reported that they are unable to view recent phone calls (calls they have received or made) and/or missed calls because their iPhone 12 is not showing their recent call history. Don’t bang your iPhone to the wall. In this article, I’ll tell you exactly why your iPhone 12 or iPhone 12 Pro won’t show recent calls and how to fix the issue.
Your iPhone records all calls. Your call history, also referred to as recent calls, has two viewing options: All (outgoing and incoming calls) and Missed. The call history section allows you to access a list of people (your contacts and other numbers) who have called you.
If you cannot see your call history on your iPhone 12, iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12 Pro, or iPhone 12 Pro Max, there are a number of troubleshooting tips you can try to fix the issue. This problem can be very annoying because, for instance, if you cannot see your missed calls, you do not know who called and you will not be able to return the call.
It’s worth noting that iOS allows you to see up to 100 most recent calls and groups. It’s also worth noting that some recent calls and missed calls can be grouped if they are from the same person or number.
How to fix iPhone 12 not showing call history issue
Try the following steps in order. After each step, check to see if your problem is fixed:
1. Restart your iPhone
This simple yet magical trick seems to have done wonders for people facing the recent calls missing on iPhone 12 issue. So restart your iPhone. If there is a minor glitch, then call log will appear after the restart.
Tip: You should also try enabling Airplane mode on your iPhone for a while. Then disable it.
2. Eject the Sim card
If restarting didn’t resolve recent calls missing on iPhone 12 issue, a similar fix of removing the SIM card from your phone should help. Turn off your iPhone, remove the SIM card, and clean it with a microfiber cloth (cleaning part is optional, but helps). Insert the SIM card again and turn on your iPhone. Now check the call history.
3. View all call history
On the call history screen, you have two tabs – All and Missed. While the All tab shows both incoming and outgoing calls, the Missed tab displays only the Missed calls. Do check those tabs. You might have inadvertently pressed the Missed tab, and now you must be seeing only the Missed calls in your call history. Tap on All to view the entire call history on your iPhone 12.
4. Make sure the date and time is correct
Using an incorrect date and time on your iPhone 12 can affect the normal functioning of your device. To check if the date and time are correct, head to Settings > General > Date & time. Turn on the switch next to Set automatically.
5. Change region
Another step you can try to fix iPhone 12 not showing call history issue is to change your iPhone’s region. Sometimes, the issue happens due to incorrectly set language and region on your iPhone. So changing regions fixes that.
Follow these steps:
Step 1: Navigate to iPhone Settings > General > Language & Region.
Step 2: Now, tap on Region. Choose a different region from your actual region.
Step 3: Next, restart your iPhone.
Step 4: Next on, change the region back to your actual country by following steps 1 and 2.
Pro tip: This fix comes in handy if your iPhone 12 call history is only showing numbers instead of contact names or your iPhone 12 is making random calls.
6. Check your iPhone storage
Your iPhone 12 should have some space to store call logs. If your iPhone’s storage is almost full, that might be the reason why you are facing iPhone 12 not showing call history issue. You might have also noticed that your iPhone 12 has become slow. We would suggest clearing the unwanted occupied space and purging some cache.
Head to Settings > General > iPhone Storage. Here you will see the amount of storage available on your iPhone 12. You should either delete the apps that you don’t use or offload them to free up storage. You can also move your photos to iCloud.
7. update iOS
There might be a glitch in the existing version of your iOS. You can check if an update is available on your iPhone by heading to Settings > General > Software update. Your phone will look for an available update. Install it once downloaded.
8. Reset your network settings
If you find iPhone 12 not showing call history after performing the above steps, try to reset the network settings. This step will only erase the mobile network and Wi-Fi network settings and no other data from your iPhone 12. After it reboots, you will have to set them again.
Head to iPhone’s Settings > General > Reset. Here you will be presented with a number of reset options. Tap on Reset network settings.
Contact Apple
If you have tried all of the above fixes and your iPhone 12 still isn’t showing recent and missed call history, there’s a good chance you may have a hardware problem. You may need to contact Apple support. Note that Apple also offers live chat support.
